I agree with this. My opinion, Walker was named the starter as soon as he had interest to come here. Did anyone else get a fair shot during preseason practice? We will never know the 100% truth.
Lunch should have been given a real opportunity against EMU, maybe sooner. Should not have taken until the 3rd quarter against Marshall to give him the keys to the offense.
I think the decision for Walker to come back this year hinged on him not wanting to play football past 26. I donāt think losing the medical redshirt is an issue to him.
The politics were Beale being named 2nd string and Lunch third. Iāve never heard āhe was put in a bad situationā so many times in my life. Lots of Beale apologist here.
Not so fast my friend. Walker had a QB rating of 69.96 per game stats. At this point in the season, Lunch gets the start and what we hope for is Zylan Perry to come back healthy. I believe that a healthy Zylan would have opened up the run game more for us against JMU.
Yes Iām aware of the drops that have plagued this team. Itās been an issue that has affected all QBās. My thoughts at this point in the season are a healthy Zylan Perry and Lunch give us the best option at winning.
Usually, college kids want to play for as long as they can especially if they know they arenāt going pro. Does it concern anyone that we have a player wanting his CFB career to just be over so he can get on with his life? As a human being, I totally get it. As a fan of Cajuns football, uhhhā¦
Including a disclaimer that I donāt know the kid or his family at all and could be completely misreading the situation. Only going off of the bits I read on here and RP.
If he does end up going back to starting QB, they then need to add plays to make Lunch a Taysom Hill type player, Lunch is too good of a player to stay on the sidelines all the time.
Taysom has not had a whole lot of playing time since coming back from injury. I think Taysom is severely underutilized. Iām afraid that would be the case for Lunch also. I dont want to see Lunch come in and just run the ball which is 99% of what Taysom is brought in for.
I had hopes that Kellon Moore would utilize Taysom in a more diverse role but not have seen that yet. Verdict is still out for now with limited play which I can only assume its due to him not being 100% healthy.
Iām afraid Taysom is washed. Iām hoping he can recover some of his speed but heās had opportunities and looked extremely slow.
On the main topic, I also worry about politics influencing a decision. While Howard had bad drops, he also looked rough at times. Hard to say how much was just first game stuff though, which I think was a lot of it. That being said, heās got all the tools to be good enough to start.
Iām worried that he is not fully healed and is being pressured into coming back. Professional athletes dont recover this fast from similar injuries.
I still dont understand why he and his family would want to take a medical redshirt. Yes, mathematically we can still win the west. At what point does a kids long term health and benefit to the program longer term outweigh a short term goal?
I understand he is a competitor and wants to compete. Sometimes the adults in the room have to protect players from themselves.
I dont disagree with that. If the injury was a hamstring, time frame to recover is normally 4-6 weeks. Maybe 8 if severe. How many times does it happen that a hamstring is reinjured shortly after a player comes back in that timeframe? Often.
That is where my comments are coming from. That is what Iām comparing it to.
