Walker Howard - Medical Redshirt

Reed Stringer mentioned the other day that although Walker may have been able to come back this year, he is sitting out so he can take a medical redshirt and still have 2 years to play. Apparently, if he played another snap this year he would lose eligibility for the medical redshirt.

I’ve seen some folks asking about it— thought I’d share

Yeah if he plays at any point in second half of season (even one game) he would lose Medical Redshirt.

We are set for QBs until the 2029 season.

We need to hit the OL/DL recruiting trail hard this offseason.

You can never stop recruiting any position…not in today’s CFB landscape.

Did Stringer say this publicly?

With portal and NIL we are never set at any position.

That’s funny, we are not set at QB. I don’t know what games you’ve been watching, but except for 1.5 qtr’s + some Overtime, we’ve been awful.

Assuming WH uses a medical redshirt, even if Lunch gets NIL and leaves, we will still have WH and DB and Altman until the end of the 2027 seaason and DB and Altman until the end of the 2028 season. Lunch staying would just be lagniappe.

Walker Howard will beat Lunch out again.

Go back and watch the Rice game. Walker played pretty well. 6 drops, 2 throw aways, 1 pick and throws to WRs who ran the wrong routes.

if he doesn’t get hurt we win that game. If the WRs catch those 6 balls we win that game easily.

Somewhat— it was in public, but not in a press setting

Lot’s of speculation. I go by what I see happen on the field.

From what was reported, Walker Howard had surgery to repair a torn oblique muscle. Why would we want to rush him back? Even if he could come back and play a game or 2, why not let him get a medical redshirt?

Anyone who faults Walker for wanting to sit the rest of the year out, is an absolute fool.

Did you miss the 125ish yard in drops? 4 of which were on 3rd down and 1 was a sure fire TD? Throws that were on the money? Did you not see the capability and pocket presence? The 35 yard TD run?

So, if you happen to shit your pants one time when you fart, you automatically diagnose yourself with incontinence?

I don’t shit in my pants, so there’s that. Nice try to redirect, but it failed.

What I should have said was, “Just because someone shits their pants one time when they fart, doesn’t mean they are always incontinent”.

So, to not redirect it from your previous comment, let me explain the analogy….. I don’t think we should dismiss a QBs ability (farting without shitting) based off of someone else’s lack of catching or route running ability (shitting when farting).

In my opinion, you cant simply rely on what you see happen on the field.

Can we agree that what you saw on the field was a very small sample size? Can we also agree that Walker had little to no help in the game against Rice?

I can agree that Walker had little help, but can you agree that we cannot claim to be set at QB for the future with what we’ve seen so far?

Yes, I agree not to name him QB1 for the next 2 years. We have seen less than 1 complete game from Walker in his college career.

What I want to see is Lunch have a great finish to this season. I also want to see a real QB competition next year between Walker and Lunch.
