Postgame Comments

In the last few weeks, we have seen our fair share of bad comments from a media outlet and specifically Des. Following last night‘s comments, post game with Cody Junot, I sat and thought, what SHOULD Des be saying, even if he doesn’t believe his own words.

I believe he is stuck in his own path, he is inept to be a head coach, he is incapable of taking constructive criticism, and his ego is too big to give up play calling.

The attached video link is from Kelly. And before I’m chastised for sharing the link, it’s from the Fox CFB page and I couldnt really care any less about TSAB or their coach. But after watching this post game interview, I wonder if Des should take notes.

I don’t know if anyone has made this statement yet. But I really think our biggest issue now with Des is he knows he has the extension and knows his position is not going anywhere. He is too comfortable knowing he can ride for another few years while suffering no consequences.

This is D1 football and you’re making a hair under 1 million dollars. After 3 of your 4 years of losing football you can’t handle simple questions about why your team is struggling? Even the softballs that this media throws at you.

I want Des to succeed. He’s one of us. But you don’t get a free pass. Take ownership of this. It’s not injuries. It’s you and your staff.

Anyone know what Walkers stats are since he came back? Thats gotta look like a train wreck.

He has just as many completed passes to the opposing team as he does to our own receivers.

2-7 for 23 yards and 2 INT

to be fair his last pass did hit the TE in the hands

To be fair, the TE was blown up not once, but twice. He also never had the opportunity to control the football.

That is correct….defender made a good play on the ball.

The defender squatted on the route and the QB missed the open read. So sure, defender made a play. Ball should have never been thrown.

  1. Walker takes the snap and immediately looks to the right flat
  2. Both Spear LB and Corner squat on the route
  3. It’s a two option route - And the correct read was the WR (top of screen)
  4. Before the ball is halfway to Caden, #8 is breaking on the ball
  5. The instant the ball contacts Caden’s hands, White’s helmet is on the ball.

It was a scripted quick out and because our vanilla ass offense is so predictable, the defense was all over it.

It’s not about Walter at all. It’s about Dez changing the momentum of the game by putting in Walker.

It’s about Dez being totally out coached again and the fact he is clueless seemingly

For those who didn’t hear the postgame with Cody Junot, it is archived at this link. Des interview starts at 4:17:34 mark.

Cody asked a good question and followed it up with a good response. Dude doesn’t have the temperament to be a HC.

Wow. Just listened. Sounded like he was shocked he asked the question and then sounded like he wanted to cry. DES taking no responsibility. Just continues to blame injuries. Actually the O line played decent enough to win. How about shouldn’t have put Walker in and kill all our momentum when Lunch was eating! Des is responsible for that 14 point swing and thus which is what lost the game.

If he throws to the receiver up top the high safety steps right in front of it and is off to the races down the sideline. That could be seen pre throw. What happened with the injury is unfortunate but could not be seen pre throw during his progressions.

A good play caller finds plays that work with the available personnel. I get all the injuries on the O-Line. Maybe the play caller should stop calling runs up the middle with a stacked box on 3rd and 8+?

Hey Des, here is a news break. Not everyone is out to get you. Maybe you should look in the mirror and realize that what you are doing is not working. Be a leader and lead.

Are you saying the window to the WR was smaller than the window to the TE? If your argument is that the correct throw was made, you’re saying that Walker felt confident enough in his arm to fit it into that tight of a window but not to a WR 4 yards up the field with a much larger window.

BTW, pre, during and post throw, it was obvious the CB was clamping down on the TE. So your risk for a pick was greater throwing to the WR?

His “progression” stopped at 1st option. Very obvious watching the replay.

I’m about tired of this discussion, so let’s break it all the way down, and put this one to bed for good.

1st and 10, ball at the 26. Cajuns up 14-7, 9:54 2Q. Troy just had a turnover on downs. Cajuns scored TD’s on their first 2/3 drives with Lunch at QB… Enter Walker Howard.

Before we begin, typically a TE quick out/hitch is a one read pass play. This can also be an option route, where the TE reads the OLBs positioning, and has the option to run either an out or a hitch. On this particular play, you can see the outside WR on a free release by the CB, who is playing zone. The CB sat on the route by Caden, timed his hit perfectly, leading to both a ‘pick 6’ and an injury to our starting TE. It was a great play by the CB, but that’s not the issue here.

Let’s review Des comments:
Comment 1: '“It was the right decision, right read”
Comment 2: “The route, depth, and timing wasn’t perfect”

Comment 1… As mentioned, the CB released the outside WR on this play, played zone, and sat on the route by the TE in the flats. That fact alone IMMEDIATELY makes this the wrong read. If you review the photo I posted, the ball was already thrown, and is shown as a blur just above the SBC logo. If that ball was thrown to the WR, which would have actually been the right read, it would have been a 15 yard gain and a first down.

Comment 2… IF Caden actually ran the incorrect route… THAT ALSO MAKES IT THE WRONG READ! At worst, Howard should have tucked and ran for what he could, and moved on the the next play. Instead, he locked on to the TE route immediately, didn’t see the CB release his man and sit down in the flats, and then threw a hospital ball for 6 points the other way.

I’m baffled that anybody else with common football knowledge can’t see these facts. Am I missing something here?
