Players Quitting and Firing Coaches

Do we still have the cULture in place?

Honest question, is Des retained if we go 1-11? If he is…it will be the equivalent of another death penalty, we may never recover.

What’s his buyout?

To much … we done have the money to pay out any contract.

The money could be raised, I assure you.

Does anyone know the number?

$3 million. He’s not going anywhere.

He can go 1-11 the next 2 seasons and he’s not going anywhere.

You’ll be sold the excuses about Walker going down, replacing NIL/Portal talent, injuries on the OL… blah blah blah.

The truth is, the talent is here to win. Colossal failure on the sidelines and on the recruiting trail, not necessarily in talent, but in failing to identity personality types needed to win a high level.

Sounds to me like kacajun is ready to write a check.

What people aren’t considering, this is a very different situation that in years past. We have a very expensive stadium that needs to be paid for. Empty suites and an empty stadium club is way worse than nickel and dimming the 3M buyout.

They’ll lose way more than 3M next season if action isn’t taken.

I don’t think people understand how much of a disaster our finances are right now.

Athletics is currently netting ~$15 million a year. We’re spending almost $40 million a year. One of the reasons Jamie Hebert is the interim president is to slash spending, fire idiotic staff and eliminate waste.

There is absolutely no way we will spend a dime on firing a coach.

Suites are not going to be empty. Suites are contracted based. I believe that in order to by a suite, you have to commit to at least 7 years.

Our budget cut to athletics is going to make the ulm one look like a hell of a deal . Get ready for the hammer!

$3 million is an absurd figure. Similar to the Marlin buyout. Maggard has been god awful in these business negotiations. Who was beating down the door to hire Des away from us? So why set the buyout so high? It only benefits Des and once again, who is coming in to hire him away for him to have that kinda leverage?

It’s almost like it’s intentionally absurdly high to permanently quell the reasonableness of any suggestions that our program should be held to a standard.

He is making ~$800k per year. Contract through 2029. Include this season and he will get paid $4M over the next 5 years.

Why would you think his buyout would be less?

What leverage did Mike have to demand he be paid 75% of his contract’s lifetime value should he be fired? None. No one was coming to hire him away if the terms weren’t to his liking. This benefits him and only him. The chances of him getting hired away to a bigger job and us reaping the reward of collecting a buyout to fund our next coaching hire were slim to none.

They had to know a correction was coming from the state and saw a golden opportunity to lock in a value hire, in their eyes, for an extended time. I don’t see anything happening until at least after the ‘27 season.

But like MAT says, it’s not 1999. We have resources now. It won’t be a complete demolition, but it will be a restart of the program.

I agree with all of this. That is just how contracts work. The buy out is one thing. The extension is another.

Does he a have a buyout reduction if Maggard leaves like Napier?

Contracts have terms that are negotiated by both parties. Even if 75% is an industry standard, there is no reason we needed to paint ourselves in to a corner by agreeing to that high of a percentage.

Baws, I just don’t have anything nice to say.

Just getting to 5 wins looks insurmountable and long-term outlook beyond this season not looking great unless Des starts having some uncomfortable talks.

Can he start by having an uncomfortable talk with himself?
