I think we can all agree that the new OLOL stadium is outstanding and a pleasant change from the old Cajun Field. There is really nothing about the stadium itself that I don’t like. Along with building the new stadium comes the need to generate as much income as possible to get that baby paid for. Therefore, I do understand the need for all the commercials on the scoreboard and the promotions throughout the game. I don’t like any of that, but understand and can deal with it. I’m there to watch the game and most of that other stuff (regardless of how silly and stupid it is) is just something I will have to live with.
However, the biggest gripes I have is the music! Not the music itself, but the fact that they continue to play it between downs VIRTUALLY UP UNTIL THE TIME THE BALL IS SNAPPED!!! Somebody get a frickin clue or find someone to handle the music that also understands and knows football!! Especially when the Cajuns are on offense!!! Our offense is already struggling enough without the DJ making things more difficult!
The other thing that pissed me off last night was the introduction of this year’s Hall Of Fame inductees. This honor is probably one of the biggest honors that these former athletes will have in their lives. Doing this in the end zone between quarters when the reading of their accomplishments has to be rushed, does not provide them with the proper respect and recognition that they deserve. Why not do this at halftime when there is usually plenty of time left after the bands performance of before such performance. This is done during the homecoming game when the homecoming court is presented, so it can be done! Don’t honor these people and try to make it a big deal and then do it this way. I realize that their formal induction is done at a nice banquet beforehand, but the vast majority of people in the stadium are not there and many don’t even know anything about these former hero’s! Let’s get it right.
This happens every season and needs to be changed!
Look Duggie, the band needs more time at half to grace you with their tribute to the music of Spain. We don’t have time to honor our athletic greats and their achievements. @zeppelincajun will defend me on this one. We are at an R1 institution first.
Gerald is spot on here. Perfect example: we played Southern at home I believe a year or so after Michael Jackson passed. Well the Human Jukebox puts on this tribute. People are going nuts. Singing. Clapping. I even saw a couple people dancing. Just real shameful behavior. In steps the POA with the greatest hits of 1937. People returned to their seats, picked their textbooks back up, and got back to researching. We weren’t an R1 university at the time, but we always knew we would be. And we acted like it.
HBCU bands in general are going to be hard to beat. My freshman and sophomore years (2018-2019) when we played Grambling and Texas Southern respectively, they brought their bands. And since they were the visiting teams, we of course had to let them go first at halftime. Seeing those bands on the field from the sidelines (ESPECIALLY Grambling) i definitely felt discouraged because how in the heck were we going to top what chaos they were bringing.
My complaint to start this thread was not about the band. That can be another discussion by itself. My complaint is the disrespect shown by game management regarding the Hall Of Fame inductees and our offense prior to the snap!
Which is a fair point and something that should be easily corrected in future seasons if any attention is paid. The part that got me was what Big Buds posted. Makes no sense to plan something else in that timeout break and then have to rush through the honors for legends.
Thank you for bringing that to the attention of folks like myself who watched the game on TV. The Hall of Fame presentation should absolutely have been a halftime thing and not something rushed between quarters.
We gonna say we’re serious about our athletes and appreciate them, especially the best of the best who come here? Then act like it.
I’ll be sending an email tomorrow regarding this. I know it won’t do any good. I just as soon take a leak against a 100 mph hurricane wind, but I guess it’ll make me feel better.
