Ragin' Cajuns Genuine Louisiana Lager - new from Urban South

My beer will cost about $1.15/can and the food will run about $4 per plate.

I do all my drinking and eating at our tailgating spot. This way, I avoid the lines, the high prices and sober up a little before heading home. I do use the bath rooms, but those are still free, right?

The draft beer has been $8 for the last several years . Craft and BMC

Urban South had this out in bottles back in 2021 and 22 and the Rouses stopped carrying it. Not sure if the brewery had stopped making it, or what. Glad it’s out again!!

My goodness, we are so back.

Where is this at baw?

That was Bayou Teche that had it in bottles back then. And I don’t think it was so much Rouse’s stopped carrying it as the Knott Brothers started focusing more on their food at the brewery…and probably got tired of dealing with the forced distributorship laws in Louisiana. I know Karlos for a while was a leader in the group that was trying to lobby to get some of that garbage relaxed, but I guess the distributors continue to have more cash to buy off our state legislators.

During that time, it wasn’t just Ragin Cajun beer that stopped showing up on the shelves, it was all Bayou Teche beers around the state. Glad to see someone else picked it up. It’s good advertisement for our brand. Wonder if Urban South is going to resume the Nicholls version that Bayou Teche also did for a year or two.

Parish Brewing used to have an awesome event called Grand Reserve Day. Can’t remember exact details but I think it was a combo of ATC and Distributors laying down some crony regulations that led to its demise. I miss that event

Urban South understands the branding.

Someone mentioned Total Wine will carry it in September. Has anyone heard about other stores?

Rouses in Youngsville used to carry it back in the day. They carry some Urban South beers now. Hopefully that one will show up on shelves too.

Bayou Teche also had a Mcneese one called Joli Blon

but the 2 Ragin Cajuns varieties came first

Not to get too into the details but there were some tax issues between BT and the state also that lead to their decision to stop distributing

Yeah…I remember hearing about that one. For as much of a red state as Louisiana is supposed to be, the politicians sure do hate free market enterprise when it comes to the booze industry.

Got it. That’s right.

Most of the laws regarding alcohol manufacturing, distribution and sales are derived from the post prohibition era. Taxes were the driving factor. Today it’s maintained because of the power of distributors.

With the exception of some small carve outs for craft breweries to sale directly out of the brewery there is a hard separation between manufacturers, distributors, and retailers. It is unlawful for them to cross into each other’s space. Distributors make and break craft breweries. Don’t get me started on ATC.

I want one.

My wife will tell you I have this bad habit of breaking glasses. I want to say she’s full of crap, but my Bayou Teche Ragin Cajun glass was somehow a victim a few years back.

Miss the old Bayou Teche Ragin Cajun so excited to have a new one. Before he passed away, my dad had surprised me with framing one of the box cases from our rehearsal dinner. Have to get in hung up in my new office. A beer that will always be close to my heart.
