QB Controversy

Nepotism?

Come on, man. Dez ain’t running for Mayor or Governor. He wants to earn and get paid his bonuses.

Yikes…that ain’t good.

I don’t mind some gunslinger in my QB. You play to win the game!

Don’t care who starts as long as long as the it’s the best player to lead the team and win games.

Let it play out. My gut is we will see him on the field at some time this season if not against Rice. He may be given limited play book, I don’t know. But he’s clean out of he broke up with the Coaches daughter. That one has been used.

Question:

If Walker isn’t announced as day 1 starter does that negatively affect attendance?

I guess, unless its $10 tickets on STM night.

Not in a measurable way, I don’t think.

Source: Louisiana has named former Ole Miss/LSU quarterback Walker Howard the school’s starting quarterback, and he’ll make his first college start against Rice on Aug. 30. Howard ranked as ESPN’s No. 3 dual-threat QB recruit in Class of 2022 behind Cade Klubnik and Ty Simpson. pic.twitter.com/9BfCg8FwVl

Worked itself out. A decision needed to be made this week.

Des officially named Daniel Beale as the backup.

I was at the practice/scrimmage last night. None of the QB’s separated from the pack, IMO. They all seemed to force the ball to receivers that were covered, a lot. Defense played a lot of man, so coverage looked pretty good most of the night. There were a few long throws made that were more adjustments to the ball than a great throw. They worked on passing downs most of the scrimmage. Lunch will play in the slot as a receiver on some sets. He looked there!

One thing I found out about this team is there are about 25 players that have been on the team for 4 years. In comparison, USM had 2 last year and this year, they have zero. You can probably guess where I got the info. Interesting to help understand CMD’s NIL strategy is to develop players and maintain the cULture. What NIL money we have will be used to keep players here, not bring portal players in. This isn’t news to anyone who follows the team, but team chemistry is a significant factor in team success. Having players on the team over a longer term certainly provides the ingredients for good chemistry and hopefully that translates to team success.

Rick. you and I talke about this at times. The bottom line is roster management. Nothing changes for UL in the age of NIL when it comes to roster building, they must continue to recruit HS athletes and develop them. If they are gone after 3 or 4 years, nothing we can do about if it’s about the money.

Yes, agree. We will sign about 21 HS players in this recruiting season. We have 18-19 commits at this time.

Thank you for that insight.

To be fair, I think this defense has a chance to be nationally recognized as one of the best in the country when all is said and done. Especially the DBs.

Having said that, I think we can win a lot of games with just competent QB play.

If our pass rush can improve significantly from last season, this defense alone can wins us 7 games.

The QB that protects the ball best, will play the most. We should have a sound running game to move the chains, so we shouldn’t need a highlight reel passing game. Just need a game manager who doesn’t turn it over. What I saw last night was a lot of throws into tight coverage. I could tell CMD was a little frustrated.

Do you think we see Lunch take a similar route that LeGendre did? Feel like he’s too athletic not to have on the field
