LETTER: Technology is disconnecting Acadiana. Here’s how we can fix it

I was being sarcastic about the Centennial towers.

I switched from Verizon a year or so ago when I started having issues with them around my house. Towers were so old that they were constantly going through maintenance. We would be out of cell service for 2-3 days at a time every couple of months.

Prior to that I had zero issues with Verizon. Connections at Cajun Field did get slow at one point but I think that was due to so many people leaving AT&T and going to Verizon just like I did.

The author of the letter seems to miss the bigger picture. Money, time, and value. Whether it’s a festival, local restaurant, or a UL football game, does the individual spending money and time attending walk away feeling like the experience met the expected value.

I think I went to grade school/jr. high with the author.

My biggest takeaway from it is embedded in the letter link was a title and link to T-Joe/Stale Savoie being appointed to the Cajundome Commission. So after this whole budget mismanagement fisasco, I guess he’s still wanted as a leader?

It’s crazy too when you consider all the ad space isn’t even being purchased. I’m sitting in an empty stadium watching the timer on the field count down from 3 minutes while some guy at home is watching the same 2 ads on repeat or a blue screen with “Commercial Break in Progress” on it.

They have to know it’s ruining the experience.

They honestly don’t care about ruining the experience. All they care about is having that ad space available to make money. If universities want their games broadcasted on ESPN+ then they must play by Disney/ESPN rules. I don’t see it changing anytime soon.

I would love to know how much money was made selling concessions at the Cajundome during early Ice Gators years.

In South Louisiana, the model of “get them here, show them a good time, and we will make money” works.

I will be at Festivals Acadiens all weekend this weekend. When all said and done, I will likely spend more than what a season ticket costs. Not because I plan to but because that what normally happens. I’m sure many people will that attend this weekend would have a similar story come Monday AM.

May I remind you that Festivals Acadiens is a “free” festival.
