What I’m really interested in is season ticket sales numbers to date. I was told in late July, ~5500 were sold, which seems incredibly low to me. I’ve also been told their “goal” is 7-8K, to which I replied, “Why so low?” Mark Hudspeth sold 12K+ season tickets in our old dump of a stadium and took 40K+ to New Orleans on multiple occasions.

You’re telling me a new stadium, good football team, duo of local HC & QB and getting plenty of pre-season buzz can’t translate into 10K season tickets being sold? What am I missing here? You’re telling me I shouldn’t expect to sell a third of the new stadium as season tickets???

That’s exactly what I expect with the effort they’ve put out. Average Joe doesn’t care about clubs and suites they can’t get into.

It’s be the same faces, as always, untill they bother to really market hard to the community or find another cheerleader like HUD.

I like Dez, but he’s an introvert who’s just not gonna fire up the masses.

I think they kinda marketed themselves into a corner on season tickets. In reference to the $150 season tix, thats $25 per game.. which is how much the single game tickets are. And also the same “two for $50" they keep advertising….

I guess you do save a little money when you add in the two games they decided to charge more because they might get a few visiting fans.

I think they’d have much better success hammering home the fact that there are no longer 110% worth of fees added to every ticket. ALOT of people I talk to still think that’s the case..

As for promotional tickets like youth LYSA football, for Youth Day? Yes. Perhaps for other community push promos. For general seating sales no. I like to put things in context when people run to talk about what they find on other boards or school’s promotions.

Minnesota’s Conference Revenue share for 2024 $63.20M. Minnesota’s avg home attendance in 2024, 47,467. Ranked 15th in the Big 10. Now there is the context, right? They can afford to pay for giving away tickets to artificially increase attendance. It’s paid for, no risk.

UL has no such luxury, most of its revenue is from season ticket sales and the Learfield contract. How do you build your product by under cutting your brand?

Here’s a little context from history. Many of us that have been fans, myself since years old waited 50 years to get back to a bowl and were happy to see a winning team. Winning football should be motivation to get your butt to the stadium as a diehard fan. And that was against SLC schools.

The days of $12-$15-dollar tickets ended when it was cool to be the cheapest ticket in town, only to be passed at the gate by the likes of STM. And park almost anywhere in the stadium for nothing.

People go to HS games every week at the top programs in this area and pay $10 to get in and $10 to overflow parking. Is it too much to ask people to pay $25 a ticket for a college football game at a winning program? JMO

YES, and parking should be free for all.

Need a minor league baseball model. Get people in the gates and hook them with entertainment while there. It has to be bigger than football if you want to see people show up. They can watch football at home for free, so the entertainment value in stadium has to be enough to offset that. Cheaper tickets is part of that but not everything. You make zero money from empty seats.

I’d give a kidney to see Bag of Donuts at halftime.

The festival model. Get people in the games for minimum entry fee and make your margins on food, booze and treats. Cajun people put 250k bodies in the park for Festival Acadien and half a million DT for Festival. I can tell you from years of lightening my wallet on both of those weekends, the money spends just the same. The difference is, Cajun Football is at a third of capacity and the other locations are over flowing with people.

Our athletic complex should be viewed as a theme park. Each sport is a different ride or attraction. Until the people in charge of athletics understand our business is ENTERTAINMENT, not competition, we’ll never thrive as a program.

High school football doesn’t give you the option to spend on premium entertainment or concessions once you walk in the gate. The 2-5k people that show up for HS Friday nights are largely the same crowd showing up to Cajun Field on Saturday. (Which is why our crowd sizes tend to be similar).

We are targeting the wrong customers.

The market has told you consistently: yes.

Do you think the people paying $20 to go to STM games are diehard STM supporters who really care about the football team? Its parents, friends, families, alumni, etc. They go because other people they know will be there, and its a chance to socialize with people you know.

You think Cajun Field used to have 40-50k diehard UL supporters tailgating in the parking lot? People went because that’s where their friends and family were. Then we nickel and dimed everyone away from tailgating, and that was over. Then we brought in the yellow jacket brigade to make sure that some family with GA tickets didn’t dare try to sneak into a better section where a friend or relative might be sitting, even if that section is 80% empty.

People will throw money at anything if they think its a good time. Right in the middle of our game against Marshall, Moncus Park is doing a beer tasting + walk in the woods event. $28 per person. All four local breweries will be there. I’ll bet you right now that more people show up to that event than are seated in the South Endzone ($25) for that game.

They’ve stripped away every ‘social’ aspect of gameday, and tried to posture themselves as a ‘big boy’ in college football. That works when you’re playing for championships and your season rides on every game. But when your head coach walks out at Fan Day and timidly days “we’d really like to host the conference championship again” as your main goal for the season, then I wouldn’t count on the actual football itself to bring people to the stands.

We are die hards and will go no matter what. That is why they only get 5k season ticket holders and maybe 7-10k actual buts in seats come November. You can make snarky remarks about stm ticket night and youth night all you want. These regular folks have no incentive to be at Cajun field on saturdays in the fall anymore. So I ask once again, would you rather have 1000 tickets sold at $10 or 0 tickets sold at $25?

The Fatima/Cathedral middle school game will pull in 7K people annually. 100% a tribal, social event.

Do you want to have the Walmart model or Target model? Do you want to be the cheapest with dirty stores or do you want to be mid priced with a better experience for your customer?
In the current business climate, Walmart is outperforming Target but that has not always been the case. Once you start selling your product for a lower amount, it will be very difficult to increase prices later without losing customers. Our fixed costs for the stadium has increased, someone has to pay for it.

They had more people downtown for a pirate festival than we get at games. Football is not getting people in seats. The event has to be more than the game.
