LOL. I searched there and other sources. No luck.
It always leaves a lasting impression on me, the size and diversity of crowds at our festivals. Especially Acadien.
Young & old. Poor & wealthy. Male & female. All religions. All nationalities. Foreign & local. Many different dialects.
Our culture just attracts literally everyone… but we can’t consistently get 25k for a CAJUN football game. I know it’s been said ad nauseam, but the only answer is the way athletics is packaged and sold to the community by the people who are supposed to be stewards of the university. It is truly a case study in arrogance, entitlement and incompetence.
And for those who say “the kind of person who attends festival doesn’t care about sports”… That’s certified bullshit. I watched the Saints game at the sports tent Sunday. The family to the left of me were from here but lived in Denver the past 23 years and the group to my right were from Vancouver. The tent was packed, people from NOLA were doing the PA chants (move those chains) and everybody was engaged. People would care about Cajun football if you, administrators, invited them to be part of something rather than blaming them for everything YOU can’t get right, administrators.
Had to get that out.
There was a pretty decent crowd at the sports tent on Saturday watching the Cajuns game. People were going in and out but when they were there, they were engaged.
I watched the end of the 2nd half at the tent while eating lunch. On last play of the half while everyone else was hollering at the stupid play call, I looked over to guy next to me and I said “I sure hope this does not cost us the game”.
Well, we know the rest of the story now.
