Either this is a much bigger story, or we’re getting extremely negative PR for a $5k misrepresented expense.
This is a direct result of years of UL leadership failing to correct audit findings and address deficit spending, especially within the athletics department. Financial improprieties that are discovered should be reported based on established regulations, yet we waited to get caught with our pants down. This specific situation just fuels a belief that there is a lack of institutional control at UL, especially within the athletic department and we don’t know how to manage our finances. The good ole boy system screwed the university hard and any misstep will be placed under a microscope.
Bingo. The $5k probably would be very minor and not garner this kind of attention in the grand scheme of things, but because of the reports of $26 million and such, every single thing is going to be now scrutinized heavily.
We can either moan and whine that it’s “unfair” politics, or we can understand what brought this about and demand that our university leadership all put their big boy pants on and operate with impeccable efficiency for the betterment of the school, its employees and its students.
TSAB library was supposed to be 150 million nownitnwill be 232 million amd climbing.
Oh and now the big donors at tsab are meeting to explore ways to give back to academics, werent we told they were all along?
