During our work on these stories, we went to the university’s website to take a look at the budget, which was not available online. There’s a copy you can view in person in the library, and a free scanner to copy it, but we thought it would be easier for our viewers if the budget was available online.
The posting of budgets isn’t universal and all agencies that do it don’t use the same formats. But we did some checking and the University of Louisiana at Monroe has their budget online; you can see it here. LSU has parts of its budget online for this year and several past years; you can see that information here. Closer to home, LCG has its budget online and has done so for decades. You can see it here. The Lafayette Parish School System also has posted its entire budget online for years; you can see those here.
So ULM and LSU make viewing their budgets by the public easy and available online apparently, but UL forces you to go to Dupre Library.
We can’t help but continue to make ourselves look incompetent. It’s almost as if you have to start asking at this point if it’s all intentional. But why?
Example 1 the company hired to clean the stadium were billing it 3 times a year to clean. Everyone knew they only came once a year. Only reason it threw up a red flag in the audit was because they billed the school during the new stadiums construction.
Again, I highly recommend that KATC reporter file a FOIA request via athletics AND through the foundation for P&L info, post and past budgets, and projected spending. If anyone knows the KATC reporter, please get them in touch with me.
When his term as president emeritus — and the $510,000 annual salary it carries — comes to an end on Dec. 31, Dr. Joseph Savoie will transition to UL Lafayette’s College of Education.
His new position as a full-time tenured faculty member starts in the fall of 2026, after a six-month paid sabbatical, according to an Aug. 14 letter between Savoie and UL System President and CEO Rick Gallot that spells out the terms of his ongoing work for the university.
Beginning Jan. 1 of next year, Savoie will be paid the average of the top three salaries within UL Lafayette’s College of Education.
This whole saga is one slap in the face after another, and it will end with my university in a financial hole it cant get out of, and the person who caused it (along with his cronies) riding off into the sunset on hefty pensions paid for by the people stupid enough to continue supporting this school.
Good ole boy politics at its finest, and the public (alumni, fans) will never learn what or how this happened because we’re not “entitled” to know. Just shut up and continue giving to the alumni association and RCAF.
Really makes me want to give more money to the university for the premium experiences and betterment of the student athletes (and bloated salaries of people not doing shit)
Now everyone understands the hate and vitriol that people like me has been throwing at the pathetic crime syndicate called Blanco, authement, Pratt, and T Slow for years. Self indulged cajun mafia.
Have to wonder what his “job” will be within the Department of Education. Maybe I missed it but I do not expect he will be “earning” his salary. He does not deserve another penny from the University. I will leave it at that.
