You right….but does that put us in the same company at Bama, UGA, ND, OSU?
I think not. But it’s par for the course, cherry picking info to try and portray something we aren’t.
What they should have done when promoting it is post the graphic and say something like:
“while this is a great achievement it’s not what our program is striving for. We want bigger and now it’s time to get to the next level; help us achieve our goals by sending a generous donation to the nil collective”
it’s something that simple that acknowledges their achievements yet tell the fans that it is not enough.
I don’t think anyone’s saying we’re a top 10 team over the last 8 years. There’s no lines to read between. We are 1 of 10 teams going to 8 straight bowl games.
It’s starting to sound a lot like lsu fans around here. I remember the Baldwin and late stokley era. Going 6-6 with bustle and not getting an invite. I’m excited we made a bowl game again. It’s way better than not.
Also, Dez isn’t going anywhere if he makes bowl games every year.
Ironically Dez was the QB on the 6-6 team that got left out. While he’s not satisfied I’m sure he’s happy to be bowling.
Tread lightly my friend
Then seriously… fold the program.
I actually hope we end up in the same bowl game we went to under Napier when we were a Top 20 team. It would really hammer home the point that, 1 loss or 6 losses, our ceiling is some dumpster bowl that nobody watches
Id quit watchin bud
We also have a ton of more resources now than we did under Bustle. I remember when we had ribbon cutting ceremonies for two double wide trailers that were brought in for meeting rooms. And we still went 6-6.
I think we can all be happy for going to bowl games for 8 straight years, but we should also strive higher for 6-6. The “messaging” comes off as a little complacent.
Remember when fans had to volunteer to pull weeds, pressure wash and paint Cajun field?
The Sun Belt Champion in 2001 had an overall record of 5-7, this isn’t exactly the SBC bustle coached in either.
Bustle had to coach against 2-3 P4 teams some years. Please tell me we’re not gonna pretend like Des has a tougher schedule to go up against.
Bustle could have turned a 6-6 season to 7-5 with the OOC schedules today. In 2006, the OOC was LSU, A&M, Houston, Eastern Michigan and NC A&T.
May be time to pull a tech and not accept a bowl invite.
Oh yeah. I also remember the men’s bathroom stalls not having any doors.
Baldwin was our coach in 2001, and we went 3-8.
Sure feels like we are in a Bustle-ish era now.
This isn’t the same SBC, we have way more resources since then but so does everyone else. JMU has a $63 million budget and is playing for a playoff spot, a long way from the champion needing a waiver to play in a bowl with a losing record.
I don’t expect JMU to be in the Sun Belt much longer. Same with Tulane in the American. Both those schools will be on the move in the next 5 years. Tulane to the Big 12, JMU to the American or possibly even the ACC.
Ask Des if he’d rather face the schedules Bustle had to face or God forbid the ones we went up against in the 90s. I guarantee he’s picking modern.
I’m sure you can go watch Rickey coach high school or something, not even sure what your point is. You would think people would be happy we don’t have to play 3 money games a year anymore only to have the 2nd smallest budgets in FBS…Mike Doesn’t make the schedule. The years bustle did play 3 money games we won 3 games. The years he won 6 we played a schedule like we do now but the SBC was much easier, feel free to keep banging your head on the wall.
