The Current: Can UL afford to subsidize its football aspirations?

Welp now we know how we achieved R1 status.

Federal investigation needs to happen.

This is nuts.

I’m not going to condone or celebrate this move. The truth is that La National Guard or any Reserve component facility does not pay for space. Those facilities are on a lifetime lease which only covers damages and reclamation. Normally on 99 year leases for $1/year. Which is nothing but symbolism.

They are usually in shithole locations not a $20-30 mill plot of land

Probably the most valuable piece of property in all of Lafayette. Instead of shops and restaurants to create millions in revenue for the university and athletics, we get $1 a year for 55 years.

You can’t make this shit up.

Him and every cajun mafia member still alive dating back decades

It’s so asinine there’s got to be political favors tied to it. We probably had to sell our soul to get the East side construction approved.

The most ironic part of it is that the Marine Reserve Center, which was vacant for a long time, fit the needs of the 256 BCT. It was also next door to their current facility, but the state would not approve the move.

Somebody got a kickback on this one. Maybe multiple somebodies.

Lil Huey agreed to implode lsu athletics for that land

Any idea why?

Yea, where’s the hard-hitting investigative journalism on this head scratcher? UL in a budget hole, gives prime real estate away for free on a location that doesn’t make sense (to me) for LANG.

I would not give land away for the East renovation if it turns out it was a quid pro quo of sorts.

Hard to make a case otherwise, right? Maybe some tax incentives? Still doesn’t erase the millions of dollars they pissed away in potential revenue.

Probably some down-the-line deal to guarantee appropriations for the university next legislative budget I’d assume.
