Think it’s $275k a year, right?
Add a W. Cajuns WBB won. A conference game, at that.
Couldn’t care less about NIL excuses when you lose by almost 50 to ULM, there’s no way they’re paying. Likewise with football, when you lose to EMU, Rice etc there’s no NIL debate.
Couldn’t find anything on emu but Rice is revenue sharing at least 10 mil over the next 3 years. It’s part of an AAC revenue sharing deal. It’s mandating as member of the American.
ULM is the only school in conference we do have more than but that’s not saying much.
Yeah its around there somehow.
I’m not concerned with us not comparing to Lubbock. Hattiesburg, Lake Charles, and Troy Alabama though? That’s a problem. Do we have a Lafayette problem or a Frazier/Maggard problem? These two couldn’t sell water to a man dying of thirst. They probably wouldn’t even try. “He can’t afford our premium glacial aquatic beverages anyway.”
From a broader perspective though, did anyone actually watch the EMU or Rice games and walk away thinking we lost because of a lack of NIL funds?
There is zero reason to pay Sunbelt women’s basketball coach $275k. I can’t think of a reason to pay more than about $175k for base salary for such a position.
Fake News!
We sold out of water last year.
Not going to argue with that but going forward with schools like rice having 10 mil in nil will be a death blow to us unless we get money. Southern miss and Ark state have more than 3 times what we have and that’s an even bigger issue.
Like you said, is it a Lafayette or Maggard/frazier issue. Not sure but from the people I’ve talked to, no one has an appetite to fund nil. It only takes a few donors to get us where we need to be but we haven’t done ourselves favors.
The harsh reality for midmajor coaches like ours is that they now have to be their own fundraisers. Des, Q, Deggs, Ally, and Garry now have to go knock on doors and rub elbows with the local people for this to work. Call it the “Hud Model.” We have been saying on Ragin Review for years, but we have history of being reactive rather than proactive around here. RCAF Edge also needs to play a big role in this, and the fundraisers on Reinhardt Drive need to be on the same page with these coaches and come up with a plan for this to all work.
Welp I’ll shut up I guess. They won last night. Time to offer the extension
137k per win
If schools like Arkansas State and Southern Miss can do it, why can’t we? There’s no effort put towards raising money from the average fan or Lafayette community member, which there are thousands of. Where is the effort for season ticket sales, or even selling single game tickets other than an occasional twitter post (which our aging fanbase hardly see’s) and a generic email. They need to get in the community and attempt to raise funds and sell tickets to create revenue. I agree that Lafayette as a whole wouldn’t buy into NIL as much as other places as I wouldn’t donate to NIL personally, however I’d be happy to buy season tickets if the effort was there. A big selling point for athletes is crowd size and game day atmosphere. I think if they improve the attendance through effort in the community, you will make this place more attractive to commit to and stay at whilst earning more revenue. Obviously the star players that get large numbers thrown at them are an exception to the rule and will leave regardless, but it’s hard to blame them
you can’t $10 a month donation nil. You need big donors willing to put up. Nil isn’t an average fan game. Someone else said this but I don’t think our fan base has the appetite for nil.
I’m not sure if this would violate title IX rules, but why not put a package together (similar to YRCC) for women’s sports? An annual pass that includes (for example)
-All home games for soccer
-All home games for volleyball
-All Tennis matches
-All home SBC basketball games
-10 home games for softball
-A donation included to each NIL fund
-RCAF membership
-Spring Banquet admission
-Priority ticket option to any postseason appearance (including softball)
Arent all those sporting events already free except for softball?
That’s the point. Try to monetize somehow.
I like your style, make it seem like you are getting a bunch of value, when 95% of the shit included is already free
With some perks included. It’s all in how you sell the idea.
The problem with our current fundraising message is, you get very little in return for donating. With a vehicle like this, at least you feel like you’re getting something but in reality, the majority of the package is essentially a donation.
