State of Women’s Basketball

Well move out the CD if money is that important.

Money is an excuse. He couldn’t recruit before NIL either.

Hard pass Garry

Is Jenny Marlin giving this dude press advice or something? Cmon…

He just needs to announce this is his last season and that he will help with the transition for the new head coach.

One thing I have come to grips with…we need at least 3 to 4 times more nil money in football to even come close to our peers. Unless we get some big donors to step up or find more big donors, we are done. It doesn’t matter who we hire. Should women’s bball be better, sure but it won’t get much better without money. Maybe you can find a coach who can system their way to be competitive but I doubt it.

We are currently closer to ULM than we are with Southern Miss when it comes to nil.

Nothing he said was wrong, other than to say Lafayette essentially doesn’t have any $$ for athletics. I don’t believe that.

He all but said he didn’t realize how much $$ was driving recruiting this past summer and how his own mistakes cost him players.

Lack of $$ is not an excuse with recruiting anymore. It’s now the #1 factor with most sports. Not sure those willing to support UL’s NIL endeavor want to support his program, however, and that’s a major problem.

From afar, to me, UL — like most schools — was not prepared for this new era. The ones who were (Texas Tech is the prime example but there are others even at the G5/6 level) are currently thriving.

I’m not sure how unique we are in this regard, but I just don’t think Acadiana will spend money on buying players. We are not Lubbock, TX.

People say all of the time, “Lafayette has money.” And we do. But this community has always been very selective with what they’ll spend big on.

At our core, I think most people still reject the premise of having to pay players. Maybe that stigma will fade as years go by, but I think the majority opinion is against it.

FB coaching “search” of 2021 did not help our NIL situation.

Texas Tech’s situation is that the two Double Eagle founders who keep selling variations of their company and acreage position for billions are former Tech football players. And one is married to a former Tech softball player.

Unfortunately, we don’t have a USL/UL version of Cody Campbell and John Sellers hanging around Acadiana determined to buy even a conference championship.

There’s a shitton of oilfield related private equity in the Lubbock-Abilene-Ft Worth area. Tech and SMU are greatly benefiting. TCU…well…don’t know at this time.

I mentioned building a system that isn’t dependent on nil, and not sure how that would work outside of service academy or in sports that aren’t football. In football you go all in on something like the flex that doesn’t depend on the best talent and you develop it with cheap talent. In basketball is it the 3 point method. Recruit shooters that are overlooked because of size or ability outside of the 3 ball? I just don’t know the path forward without a whale donor who wants to give. It won’t come from nickel and dime donations.

Winning and saying you need more money to continue building to another level is one thing. Never winning before NIL & now saying you can’t compete without money is another.

Just wait until Brodheads revenge tour in 26-27!

Broadhead should just give up 50% of his salary and use to the rest for Rev Share…it amount he makes is criminal.

It’s the same excuse Marlin was giving last year. He said there’s no money and that he is fundraising then a new coach comes in and out funds him in the first year….its not an “us” having a money problem is a fundraising problem which we all know this university has been historically bad at. And of course the on court product… which he has accomplished nothing (even though Jamarcus Fitzpatrick begs to differ)

Imagine if he actually did this and then won a league title or the tourney.

His legacy would flip overnight.
