18-10 (3-6 in conference)
We are at the halfway point of the 2026 baseball season. What has been your overall perspective so far?
For me, I think starting pitching has been much better than anticipated. We do lack middle relievers right now, but it’s good to see Cody Brasch come in and close with ease. As far as hitting is concerned, the lack of power in the lineup and the lack of consistency by our upperclassmen has caught up with us. It’ll be interesting to see we look like in the next 5 games leading up to the Southern Miss series. Defensively, we are way ahead of last season.
We only have a shot at conference championship and or getting into a regional if we start hitting . Our pitchers will be wore out amd our defense will suffer. ALL Starts at the plate. Who knows, we might turn that around
We had to find some middle relief pitching. Flanagan ain’t it. He’s been put into two different high leverage situations and gave up game costing home runs each time.Defensively we are pretty damn good!
At the plate we have a roster full of 7,8 & 9 hole hitters. I do really like what I see from Brown, Amidee and LaCava. Those three are really the only few who fits Deggs attacking style of hitting.
We have some really good pieces and young talent, just not enough contact or nearly enough power at the plate to consistently win against the better arms in the league.
Unlike ULM and TxSt, those teams can slug their way to wins they have no business winning because of poor defense and mediocre pitching.
With that being said, if we finish in the top 4 of the SBC and win 2-3 games in the SBC tournament then we will be in a regional. There, we will have a shot at winning some games.
It’s hard for me to detach this team from the whole of what our athletic department has become and evaluate it on its own. It’s just another mediocre product that we’re expected to pretend is something other than that.
Best shot: average, relatively thin pitching not enough to overcome how atrocious we are at the plate.
