Before football concerns, Cajuns try to get minds right | UL Ragin’ Cajuns | theadvocate.com
As many have said, Des needs to immediately give up play calling on offense to his Offensive coordinator and focus on being a Head Coach overall! Why not even try it?
Quotes from the article that leave me extremely concerned.
- “I want the leadership to lead, so of course,” Desormeaux said of his response to the gesture.
- “It requires extreme ownership from everyone involved,” Desormeaux said. “It takes everyone looking in the mirror and saying, ‘How can I do my job better to help this football team?’
- “When you’re on a really good team and everybody bands together and everybody kind of circles the wagons, these types of things can galvanize you. When you’re on a team where, there is some splintering and things like that, these are the types of things that kind of break you apart a little bit.”
- “Unplug from things that are distractions; unplug from things that create negativity; unplug from things that don’t help our progress; and immerse yourselves in the things that do,” Desormeaux said. "Immerse yourselves in the film study, right? In the positive conversations, in the positive relationships, in your schoolwork, because it’s productive. It gets you moving forward, right?”
- Desormeaux sees the productivity of diving into schoolwork or such activities as attending church and reading the Bible to bring peace and clarity. “There’s a lot of negativity, especially when you’re not playing great,” he said. “You have to unplug from those things. Otherwise, it can create more doubt. It can create even more division.”
So based on this we have leaders failing, a team that is splintered, distracted, and impacted by negativity. Reading this article doesn’t give me a warm fuzzy feeling. This sounds like the coaching staff has players that are mentally checked out after three games, which says we’re missing the boat on getting buy-in.
I try my best not to read too much into what coaches say to the media.
But this just sounds like a coaching stuff searching for answers. I believe him when he said he “doesn’t know” why this team looks like this.
