Word out there is the new ULM President has made major cuts to the athletic budget which prompted the Athletic Director to resign. Will ULM exit the Sunbelt Conference in the near future?
I have fully defended ULM being a part of this conference, but if their budget is going to be at the level of McNeese State, then they need to join McNeese state. Full stop.
Let’s assume they do drop to FCS (which I don’t think happens, but for fun).

At this point they don’t have a choice unless they are just accepting of being last and cut all costs but collect the Sun Belt media rights check.
That’s the interesting part. I’d like to get back into Texas with a UTSA. I know that doesn’t really fit our footprint. East will want to continue to add on the east coast. I feel like we are stuck until TV right contracts are up. All the teams that I would want, would be in the AAC, which they will not leave anytime soon.
Memphis is the linchpins in the AAC if they bounce no telling what happens. Media deal would definitely take a massive hit.
Enough to relieve other members from having to pay exist fees and stuff like that?
West Florida is the obvious choice.
They only have 1 payout game in 2026 and a 2-3 mill budget cut. That’s when shit is going to get deep.
I have a feeling that Maggard is looking for the exit with T-Joe’s departure. Assuming a new president and AD, who’s to say this same scenario won’t play out down here?
