There’s a lesson in humility that can be learned in all of this. You can be a head coach, but you can also be humble enough to recognize that you aren’t the best answer at calling plays on offense.

I think Mike would be a good OC if that’s all he had to worry about. There is just too much going on in a game that the HC should be worrying about and also have to call plays. Very few have been successful doing it, Sean Payton lost a lot of games due to game management. He was lucky to have Drew Brees that covered a lot of the sins and knew the offense as good or better than Payton.

The only coach I know that is doing well with play calling and being a HC is OU’s Brent Venables (not to be confused with RR sponsor BRETT Venables lol) and that’s because he was a really good defensive coordinator who won NCs at both OU and Clemson.
Ryan Day gave up play calling and they won a Natty the same year.
Venables has had 2 losing seasons in his first 3, not doing great by Oklahoma standards. Off to a good start this year, let’s see how it goes in SEC play. It worked for Napier here bc we had a QB who Played for 5 years and we had an NFL OL with an NFL RB in the SBC.

I listened to his media availability today and I can’t stand how he says, “our goal every year is to win a conference championship”. WHAT ABOUT THE CFP?
Do they just automatically think (or know) we aren’t good enough?
The HC has too many duties all together, he has to run the program make sure no rules are broken, set up game plans, set up schedules, got to hire people, figure out everything and too many other things. That is why a lot of teams are getting GM’s to manage the teams meany different things, that way the HC can just worry about the product on the field and recruiting.

maybe they set a goal that they can control. WE could go 12-0 and it would still be up to other people to put us in the CFP.

Not sure if you are joking or not but I might have to put that on my reading list. It’s something I fully believe in and find very interesting.
Troy might be working for LSU soon from what I am hearing.
I bought it for insight into the healing traditions of our culture. The healing part of UL football was a joke.
