You know, this platform has its share of self-appointed experts who act like omniscient gatekeepers on political news, confidently declaring things “lies” or “not factual” as if they’ve got exclusive access to objective truth. It’s almost comical—when they bother citing a source at all, it’s predictably from the usual left-leaning and TDS outlets or so-called “fact-checkers” that conservatives have long seen as tilted against right-of-center views.
All I’ve tried to do is share links and opinions from the other side of the aisle to provide some actual balance and push back against one-sided narratives. I don’t go around labeling anyone’s opinions as flat-out lies; I ask questions when something doesn’t add up, and if they go unanswered, that’s telling in itself.
But some folks go way out of their way to “debunk” or shut down differing takes, acting like their preferred sources are infallible. Come on—that’s nonsense. They’re just as reliant on their echo-chamber feeds as anyone else, including the conservative voices I trust.
The hard reality is we’ll never get the full, unfiltered truth about what’s really happening in government—past or present—because too many institutions have agendas. But one thing is crystal clear: Opinions are like assholes… everybody’s got one.Stay thirsty my friends!
Is this rant in response to the gif I posted? I’m assuming so since you called me a “wizard” then. If so, you might want to double check which post of yours I was replying to.
No. If you click what I referenced you can see. It was your post from about a week ago saying you were bowing out of the thread. It was just a joke on how active you’ve been there since that post. And no I don’t actually think you are a liar. You did a very human thing we all do and change our minds. Your opinions are about as far from mine as can be. I dont think that makes me an all knowing wizard.
I do like being able to discuss issues that would get deleted or “sidelined” on RP, though. I honestly haven’t read anything from anyone on here yet in these political threads that makes me want to say “You must be a horrible facking human being”.
We all have lives that have formed our worldview and think we all absolutely want what’s best for our country. We all have differing views on how to get there but that is what makes this country great.
This platform was created, in part, to discuss current events. I’ve read every word of the political discourse and you seem to be the only one getting your panties in a wad. Funny that the generation who coined the phrase “snowflake” just can’t handle reading someone else’s lived experience on a discussion forum.
Just because Fox News told you certain outlets are “Left-leaning TDS fact checkers,” doesn’t mean the facts that they’re reporting have any less validity. Last year, CBS was a “lib MSM outlet.” Now because Trump sued and Bari Weiss got a sweetheart deal to run CBS, it’s a bastion of truth. It’s ridiculous. Independent journalism and their ability to self-publish without fear of being fired has totally changed the landscape of information. The links I provide for reference (not proof) are usually from PEOPLE I follow and have read for years, not the publications they represent. It’s facking lazy to just read the name of an outlet and dismiss what they say. And it happens way too often.
I have not seen a single person “going out of their way” to “shut down” differing takes. What I have seen are people giving opposing opinions and providing supporting references. Which is how you spur conversation. If you can’t participate in the arena without getting offended, just say that and bow out. There’s really no reason to post a long, whiney rant.
I thought you were replying to the Maduro video that implicates Rand Paul and Thomas Massie, so figured you were another poster who acts like they know it all.
Yes, I stated that I was leaving the peace president thread but since it got so slanted leftward, I had to come back.
Your condescension doesn’t make your position stronger, it just highlights the irony. You accuse others of being “snowflakes” while dismissing legitimate media bias concerns as mere Fox News programming. That’s not engaging in discourse, that’s gatekeeping.
The shift on CBS isn’t imaginary because Paramount settled Trump’s lawsuit over the deceptive editing of the Kamala Harris 60 Minutes interview for $16 million in 2025, a move widely seen as buying regulatory peace amid their corporate merger. Then, in a $150 million deal, they acquired Bari Weiss’s The Free Press and installed her as CBS News editor-in-chief. She happens to be a vocal critic of legacy media’s left-leaning tilt. That’s not “sweetheart deal” fantasy, it’s documented corporate reality that flipped perceptions of CBS overnight for many who once viewed it as reliably center-left.
Dismissing sources based on outlet name can be lazy, sure, but so is reflexively defending any link from “people I follow” while ignoring institutional incentives, funding, or editorial capture. Providing references is great for conversation, but when those references come from outlets with clear ideological slants, it looks less like spurring debate and more like fostering an echo chamber.
I’m not “whining” or “bowing out”, hell I’m just getting started after just retiring this month, I have all day, everyday. You’re calling out hypocrisy in a forum meant for exactly that. If robust pushback offends you more than one-sided sourcing does, maybe reflect on who’s actually fragile here.
Scrutiny isn’t shutdown, it’s how truth gets tested.
