I don’t know shit from shit, but I feel like Learfield is another one of those lazy outsourcing things this athletic department loves to do . This is a negative AFAIAC.
I’m glad someone else sees the pattern. There is a reason why athletics is about to get a massive budget cut. All of these out sourced deals have been bad for us.
I see it daily in my own corporate life. Almost ever deal we enter in is a bad one but it changes the numbers that Wall Street sees apparently. My opinion is that we were a much better company years ago without outsourcing half of what people used to do.
The problem with these deals is you’re bringing on companies that have no skin in the game. You’re just a customer and if you aren’t in their top tier then you don’t get the attention you deserve. They’ll deliver the terms of the contract at the lowest effort and cost.
Even more than that, you’re creating competition between the school and Learfield. The way the contract is written, after a certain amount of guaranteed investment from UL, we split the share 50/50 with Learfield. Literally competing with them for revenue.
I know for sure that the Learfield deal has hampered basketball scheduling by requiring a certain number of home games, thereby reducing the opportunity to play more quality teams on the road. Now, Coach Q will help, as I believe his success and connections will make scheduling more effective and satisfying to the knowledgeable fans.
Here’s the facts. The deal with Learfield brings in more revenue per year than season tickets. Good, Bad and Ugly, they are here to stay as long as they feel they can make money and promote the Ragin Cajun brand.
