Not a good day for Cajun softball. The bad Cajuns showed up at the ballpark today and lost 9-1 to drop the series. 12 years ago today was a great day for Cajun softball. The Cajuns defeated defending national champion Oklahoma twice, 7-0 and 3-1.
I remember hearing on Ragin Review that there was not a good chance that we would reach 89 consecutive SBC series wins probably ever again because of how much the sport had changed and how much the conference had evolved. Not accepting the loss because this was definitely a winnable series and did not think we would drop the series. Just gotta work stuff out before we play Texas state. Donโt want us to lose 4 SBC series again especially when seeing some improvement from last yearโฆit might not seem like it but itโs there
I think people severely underestimate the full impact Glasco leaving, while also gutting the program impacted softball. Coach Habetz had to start building a roster in less than ideal conditions while also navigating the NIL world we live in. Can we be competitive and get back to winning Conference Championships and going to Regionals, absolutely! However, it will take time to build to that level, but progress is visible.
I brought up what happened 12 years ago today simply to show how great it was beating Oklahoma twice back then and the excitement it created and forward to 12 years to the day how miserable it was today losing to USM and dropping the series. I am hoping we turn the corner soon and not drop any more SBC series.
Honestly, a pitiful performance this weekend. Scored a total of two runs in both losses, and outside of the 1st inning in game 3, never looked competitive in either game. This team does its best Jekyll and Hyde act, and thatโs a direct reflection of coaching. Never know which team will show up.
