With the recent injuries, I think the extra playing time for those healthy has helped. I understand what Coach Q has been doing but sometimes I thought it hurt more than it helped.
What I really love is Q has not made the injuries an excuse for how this season has been which I hella respect.
The previous reich would have used it as an excuse 3 months ago and 5 times over.
List of Bob Marlin excuses after losses that I can remember over the years:
-altitude at App State
-we are the standard of the Sun Belt
-the Sun Belt West isn’t easy in basketball like in football
-we are injured
-the refs
-we won 27 games last year so teams are after us
-we can’t schedule because teams are too scared to play us in the Cajundome
-one of our players got injured
I’m sure there’s more.
I bought into the hype in the begging of the season…believed the recruits Q brought in were several steps above what BigFish could do. Q went out and raised NIL money and vocally pushed for fan support, which was surprising and needed. Then some injuries occurred even before the season started, then more injuries along the way. Got off to a horrible start and watched some of the worse basketball I’ve seen in my life. But anyone who has followed the Cajuns this season can easily see the progress this team has made. A positive attitude among the players and the coaches persisted thru that bad start and it’s starting to pay off. They are still in a bad way healthwise and pretty sure this will be the primary reason they won’t be able to make much noise in the conf. tourney. However, I’m looking forward to the rest of this season and especially to see how we fare next season!
Given the situation they are in with a depleted roster they are exceeding expectations in conference play. We all knew their defense will keep them in games. Once we get some shooters in and a big man we will be in a good spot. I’d still much rather this vs anything with Marlin.
We peaked under Marlin years ago. Everyone except for a select few in the Rebounder’s Club knew the program was sinking. At least there’s upside under Q.
The SBC is dogshit enough a 10 win team can make a run in the tournament.
Out of all the SBC games so far the only team to completely outclass us was Troy. Every other game it can be argued that the Cajuns could have and should have won. Blown leads down the stretch of a few and then Tot from app going full blown Steph curry in a 4 minute stretch. I feel like this team is finally gelling and learning how to win. Q has been better with his timeout management down the stretch of games as well.
I think the most important thing for this team is to finish in the top 6 in order to make some noise in the conference tournament. With the format being the way it is 4 games in 4 days is much better than 6 or 7 games in 7 days. Top 4 is certainly within reach as well with 9 teams jumbled up with 4 to 6 losses. Time to finish strong.
With how bad the Sun Belt is this season and despite our poor start, we are 3 games out of a tie for 1st place
