TL;DR
Dr. Geoffrey Stewart approved to serve as interim vice president for advancement and strategy, $266,000 plus endowed chair stipend. Budget issues cited, professors mad because they haven’t received a raise.
My take is this, I’m biased, but Dr. Stewart is a great professor and someone who is committed to UL. He is someone who wants to see us succeed.
I look at those things with the question of could the recipient of whatever salary go out and get a job in the public sector making similar. If the answer is yes, and the money is available, then it’s probably justifiable.
Now granted, there’s typically much more job security in a government job than a private sector one, and retirement pay practically guaranteed too, so that’s something to consider.
I have no idea of Dr. Stewart’s abilities or how his resume would stack up vs private sector, but just my thoughts.
I’d say in the case of Dr. Stewart, absolutely.
I took several of Geoff’s classes 2003-2005 in the COB. If anyone is deserving, it’s him. People can piss and moan about the pay, but this is the going rate for VP’s. If UL were to go out and hire outside the school, it would have cost them more.

Echoing this. Dr Stewart might be the best professor I’ve had. He also really cares about the university and community. Easily the best move of Dr Kolloru’s tenure.
Dr. Stewart is as good as it gets in the classroom! He’s a players coach for sure.
