UL eliminates six positions, closes sustainability office amid $25 million budget crisis

My comment was obviously a joke. I could have said 200k and 125 years.

Where would all the Lot E parking pass holders park? All 15 of them…

Dr. Fun sure has been quiet lately.

Probably still celebrating how this will negatively affect our ability to compete in athletics.

I’d like Dr Fun to explain to me what R1 designation has actually done to the university. We’re still ranked below ULM and Tech in major national collegiate rankings, we’re hemorrhaging students and staring down a massive deficit.

Or, we could allow a company to build and manage housing all around the athletic complex. First floors of the buildings would be commercial space and the top floors would be housing.

They would pay a set lease fee to the university and a commission on sales. We could easily add 5000 more beds around the complex. It would also add to gameday atmosphere, increase student population, increase attendance.

Didn’t the university already shoot a similar proposal down a few years ago?

Baw…don’t get this board shut down.

Yes because our former president was a facking moron…see our current budget problems.

And current/acting President says to stop worrying about who caused this.

“The more time we spend worrying about who’s at fault or how we got here, the less time we have to work on where we need to be going,” said Hebert. "

We’ll never find out. The general public and “outsider” alumni aren’t owed an explanation. In fact, we need to stop acting like entitled brats in wanting one.

Being a public university, doesn’t the public deserve an explanation? Does not have to be a big public spectacle. I think the University should be required to publish the findings where those who what to know can seek the info.

It would be great to get full transparency, but that’s not how we do things. The alumni, community, and stakeholders should continue to contribute to the university with no explanation as to why fiscal controls were ignored by leadership for several years.

What R1 should do for UL:

  • Enhanced Prestige & Reputation: The R1 designation acts as a hallmark of excellence, boosting the university’s national and international standing.
  • Attraction of Top Talent: Leading faculty and high-achieving graduate and undergraduate students are drawn to the institution’s research opportunities and esteemed reputation.
  • Increased Research Funding: R1 universities gain greater access to significant grants from federal agencies (like the NIH and NSF), private foundations, and industry partners.
  • Positive Economic Impact: The university often becomes an economic engine for its region, stimulating local economies, creating high-quality jobs, and fostering innovation.

What R1 had one for UL:

Banners.

To add insult to injury, the goal posts have been moved on what determines an R1 designation. Shortly after UL attained R1, the metrics were watered down substantially.

Maybe because everyone else realized what we’ve seen…R1 designation sounds great in theory but doesn’t really do much for you practically.

Plug in the CajunFun bat signal

YAY ! We’re R1 !!

What did we win? Well, we have declining enrollment and a 25 million dollar hole to fill.

Awesome.

Just heard a story from my old advisor. They had a meeting this week about all expenses above $1,000 had to be approved. They had a group of about 10 people stand up and ask so our conference in Hawaii will still be covered right lol.

Left wing entitlement at its best. Thanks T Joe. Good riddance
