Dekkers was cut a couple weeks ago
Dude looks like he has lipstick on
The Saints might pick up a veteran QB to mentor the youngsters and be an option if necessary. Haener was not an NFL QB. Another wasted draft pick on a QB just like Booker.
I give Rattler 4 weeks. If he does not show he can lead the team, its time to move on to see if Shough is the future of NOLA.
Perfect Tank Commander dude has yet to win a NFL game.
I think everyone should have known that after the Drew Brees era, that it would take the Saints several years to rebuild. Not only because of loosing Brees, but eventually they would have to pay the piper for continuing to redo contracts and pushing money into the future. In my opinion, it will take the Saints another 2 or 3 seasons to get their salary cap back under control (if Loomis tries) before they will have money to bring in FA’s and start competeing again.
Itll be longer than 2-3 seasons
They will be mediocre at best (ex. Haslett era) until they stumble on to the next good Head Coach + QB combo. Which is the case for all 32 teams in the league…
Thats why I’m never a fan of the “tank for XYZ" plan. Teams like the Jags, Browns, Jets, etc are constantly picking in the top of the draft and they still haven’t had much success. Jags got the ‘cant miss’ QB prospect and have spun their wheels since. The Bengals drafted incredibly well and it got them to a Super Bowl, but now they’re having to pay all those draft hits and cant afford to upgrade anything else on the team.
As long as Loomis is GM saints are cooked.
Dude has gotten dominated by Philly GM every year.
We do have the defending Super Bowl champion O-Coordinator as our head coach. Gotta trust that he can create something similar here. Jalen Hurts is no Drew Brees, he just had everything else in place in Philly. Hopefully we can build that here over the next few seasons. It’s not fun but we needed this rebuild 2-3 years ago.
I must be one of the very few who thinks Mickey Loomis is a good GM and doing the best he can under the circumstances. So many have forgotten what true incompetence looks like with the Saints in the past. I remember it well. Mickey doesn’t make these decisions himself. He is really not a football guy, he relies on his staff and heavily on the coach. Yes, they have made bad decisions on draft picks, but I would blame the Coach at the time and the personnel evaluators. They have since made changes and I like the direction they are currently going now.
He has been with the Saints for 25 years the dead cap hit, terrible drafts and the willingness to give up picks is baffling. Tom gave him power to pick the next owner and Gayle’s incompetence is the only reason he is still employed.
And in that time he’s overseen two seasons of fewer than 7 wins.
I dont think he’s a good football GM, and thats mostly because he was never supposed to be. He was an accountant/salary cap guy who found ways to get Payton whatever new toy he thought he needed every offseason.
Then our scouting department and assistants got raided, Payton left, and we’re stuck with a bunch of non-football people trying to run a team and an owner that hasn’t the slightest clue where to turn if she decided to replace them.
Same story with the Pelicans.. Gayle got mad because the GM wanted to fire Willie Green, so she fired him and turned to the only person she knows in the industry - Joe Dumars.
