I read this morning that Montana and Montana St spend roughly $2.2 million in NIL on athletes. When FCS programs are tripling what we spend on NIL, kind of puts things into perspective.
When you watch these schools and I’m including North Dakota State in that, you see how much fan support these schools get. I know it’s different in that they don’t have the amount of distractions locally that we do but there is zero reason we can’t build a fan base like that here. If you can do it in Missoula, Fargo, Bozeman, etc, you can do it here.

It’s unsurprising. We have an administration that kicked their feet up and got warm and cozy just as the arms race for college football kicked in to high gear. NIL, the transfer portal, and current budget issues are not seen as issues to tackle. They are built in excuses for mediocrity and lack of effort.
In addition, the messed up classifications with college football have really distorted people’s perceptions. They may be a class “down” from us but in no way would we compete in the upper echelon of the FCS. I’m not even sure we could win the current, watered down Southland.

The opportunity to do just that was available in 2011 when we made our first bowl trip since 1970. There was excitement and a large contingent of fans showed up in New Orleans and were ready to embrace a new era of Ragin’ Cajun athletics. Since then leadership has failed to seize the opportunity and have priced out a lot of fans. We’ve hired outsiders and entities that know nothing about the #cULture and choose to approach every decision as they are the smartest person in the room. The opportunity to build something special in Lafayette/Acadiana is waiting to be seized, but it requires leadership to listen to the voice of the people.

North Dakota State is FCS in name only. They are FBS caliber without a doubt. Some other FCS schools can compete comfortably in the FBS level too
This is the result of decades of burned bridges and preemptive strikes on any semblance of big money donors in Acadiana. Going back to to the post-Shipley days, it has always been about control for Martin Hall. We have accomplished things IN SPITE of Martin Hall, but the times have caught up with us.

Yes. Time to press the reset button. Re-boot the entire athletic department with a local focus. Do what we should have done 50 years ago.

We don’t have the base to focus solely on Acadiana. Our main problem is trying to do what everyone is does, when we aren’t like anyone else.
