Seems like The Current wants to continue talking UL.
This type of information gathering frustrates me. Tuition and fees are high, however this is a result of our state government cutting funds for higher education. The topic of student success or lack thereof is driven by multiple factors. First, we have to look at student motivation, many students enroll in college not because they want to, but because they were told to by parents, teachers, or others. An individual that lacks internal motivation to complete a goal is unlikely to succeed. Second, we have to look at how prepared the student is to transition from high school learning to college learning. I’ve taught in a college classroom and the variance in student abilities is obvious. A high school student that has identified college as their next step must be placed on a learning pathway that promotes success. Finally, there are students who reach a point where the financial/economic demands of attending college are too much. These are just some factors that limit success. A quick news article doesn’t do this topic justice.
This little guy at the Current has definitely settled in as the resident “shit on UL” reporter/writer
