I couldn’t agree more that America is a melting pot which makes it unique and great. Everyone should have the opportunity to come to this country and make something of themselves. But there’s a legal process in doing that. I think that’s where most of the immigration sympathizers miss the point with the “America was founded on immigrants” line. No one is denying that nor is no one is saying “you can’t come here” or “we want to kick you out because of what you look like.”
What I’m saying is please come. Just make sure to follow the proper procedures if you want the opportunity and learn how to integrate with our cultures and customs. Don’t cut the line. Don’t come here illegally, use your spouse and children as emotional leverage, and then kick and scream when you’re asked to leave. Do it the legal way, and you can enjoy all the great opportunities that America has to offer.

The problem with the heavy handed approach is that people who did do it right are getting swept up in it. People going to their immigration appointments should never be arrested. That could be a minority view but it’s my view.
And let’s not pretend that people in this admin haven’t made comments about denaturalizing people.

They’re going after people who lied in the process for citizenship which would then turn it over to a US attorney and file it in a federal court. With that said, wrongful deportations and unjustified enforcement isn’t anything new. It’s been going on for decades.

You mean they are weaponizing citizenship to get rid of people who speak out against them or another entity that shall remain nameless.
Like I said. It starts with illegals then its naturalized and then all of a sudden it’s because you are “anti-American”.
We can agree to disagree because none of us are changing our minds on what we believe.

Yes the admin has weaponized it. Most recently with Zohran Mamdani. Threatening to look into his citizenship. Using threats of denaturalizing citizens is weaponizing it.

I’m not arguing that the last admin didn’t let too many in but I also don’t believe the numbers that opponents say he let in.
the heavy handedness in how the admin is handling it is my problem. People who have been here legally are being arrested at their assigned appointments. Hell they have even locked up American citizens who couldn’t show paperwork immediately. That’s wrong.
But yes. Geaux Cajuns.

I want to be clear, I can be for a strong border and still be against heavy handed mass deportation. Those are not 1 in the same. As has been mentioned previously, a great number of the “illegals” have been huge contributors to the US. They should be given a faster pathway to citizenship.

One of the options for a free pathway to citizenship, IMO, can be military service. If you want to come here, serve in the armed forces for 2-3 years.

You see nothing disingenuous in telling someone, “come here the proper way. I’ve seen it take close to a decade for others. And by the way even if you do you might be unjustifiably deported anyway. That’s happened for decades.”?

It’s the fact that somehow it’s always this administration that takes the brunt of the blame for something that’s been happening for decades as if it just started on January 20, 2025. Same thing with the “children in cages” outrage in 2018 with all of the fake crying photo-ops outside of the detention center and politicians pretending to cry on tv when it was the Obama administration who built the cages in the first place.
By no means am I saying that the Trump administration is completely innocent of shortfalls. But if we really want to create immigration reform, we need to come up with some constructive solutions as a starting point. I think the work visas that Clutch brought up and military service is a place to begin. I also think there needs to be reform on paper trails and processes so we aren’t deporting innocent people.
