# Albineaux 2026 Debut (We Need Guardians)

Hey y’all,
I’m very excited to say Albineaux will be making his return this weekend, but this appearance is going to be a little different.
For the first time, I won’t be the person inside the suit. It’ll be an 18-year-old UL freshman that has volunteered to take that leap and become one of the first students to carry Albineaux forward.
Al was always supposed to be for the students so I’m very very excited. However, I can’t be there with him today. He’s primarily doing this on his own passion. Please, look out for him. Even if you don’t like Al, I beg you to make sure he’s staying hydrated if you’re at Cajun field. This is his first time ever doing mascot work. Me and another former character person have coached him but I can only do so much from a distance.
Also, regardless of what happens today. Give him some grace. This is his first time and like I said, it’s a kid in a costume.
It would be so great if he received all the same amount of love that I did when I was walking around.
But most importantly, I hope people are at least kind to him.
Looking forward to getting updates from everyone after the game.

I just talked to the student who was Al this weekend. He said he had an amazing experience. He’s incredibly excited to keep being Albineaux. He said the hardest part was finding a moment to breathe because there was just so many kids that wanted to take a picture with him and play with him. I told him that’s what it’s all about. Making memories and future Cajuns fans for life. I’m just filled with so much joy and pride.
He also said there was several adults that made sure he was hydrated and gave him some moments of calm (i.e. allowed him to lift off the mask with no kids around). If that was one of you, thank you so much. I’ve spent years saying this project to not just me but ours as a fanbase. And now it’s really starting to show and take shape. It’s truly so amazing.
Also something historic happened. He actually made it inside the stadium. He told me it took some effort but that it was great when he was there! I think things are advancing in the grassroots mascot world.
If any of you took a picture with Al this weekend, I would love to see the photos and be able to share them. More people need to see just how much joy he brings.

It was great to see both the UL gator mascot and UAB dragon mascots in the stadium Saturday. Fun times!
