2026 Resolutions: One thing you want to see from UL Athletics this year

Actually get out in the community and make an effort to gain/maintain a fan base.

The RCAF needs a reboot.

Hope this isn’t the extent of Learfield’s marketing to businesses…

Maybe that can be my New Year’s resolution, I’ll do that more often

No complaints here, I’ve been a wrestling fan for a long time.

Hire a fundraising boss that isn’t a mute and doesn’t spend his time meddling in communications or staring at his cell phone.

I want to see a full time fundraiser also, but I want to see better advertising all around (TV, radio, on-line, and hard copy (bill-boards, mail, posters)).

If you remove the letters from any of those characters, people would have a hard time guessing who that character represents; because a dog, a bear, and a raccoon are practically in every state.

If you the Cajun Night Before Christmas, what animal is pulling Santa’s sleigh? It’s an alligator. I didn’t just choose a white alligator because it was low hanging fruit. I chose Al because out of all the characters that the school could go with, this one has the potential for the highest return on investment with the least amount of things to change.

When designing the mascot, it wasn’t just about the character, I also looked at maximizing merchandise potential —something our desperately needs. Alligators are already part of Louisiana’s economy in a big way. The image of the alligator is everywhere. Giving our mascot a distinctive difference allows for UL to be incorporated into the already established Louisiana meta — whereas a bear, a raccoon, and a catahoula don’t carry the same weight.

This cutting board being an example of a merchandise opportunity that is distinctly Louisiana and UL at the same time.

As mentioned in the original post, I respect your grind. If we had more people in the building that care like you do, this place would be thriving.
